Matt's in Japan now, so this podcast was actually recorded a little ahead of time. Nonetheless, we did find some great stuff to talk about.
First up we talk about Japan itself; some of the things to get up to while you're there (it's not just about anime and games, believe it or not). Then we talk about a Japanese game we're all greatly looking forward to; the latest in the Danganronpa series. Finally, we have a chat about party games, and some of the challenges that come with reviewing them as game critics.
Thanks as always for listening, and be sure to catch us on Twitter if we're interesting enough!

Welcome to hell, if you're the sort of person that likes keeping up with all the big releases in a year. September is going to destroy you.
Seriously, it's got to be one of the busiest months for exciting releases that we've seen all year, so we kick this podcast off talking about that. From there we take a look at Shenmue 3, which has unfortunately been quite controversial for all the wrong reasons over the past week.
Finally, we catch up on Final Fantasy XV, and all the stuff that's been happening with that world. Love it or hate it? Let us know!

We're all about the retro this week on the DDNet podcast, as we chat about our favourite JRPGs, horror games, and platformers from yesteryear.
Which Final Fantasy is the best, are there any good modern platformers that compare to the classic Mario games from yesteryear, and why has modern horror so lost the plot when it comes to being scary? We talk about this and more!
As always, thanks for listening, and be sure to tell us what you think of the podcast!

Hellblade, Unity, and rhythm games (Digitally Uploaded 2017, Episode #29)
Monday Aug 14, 2017

Last week Hellblade was released, and it absolutely blew us away with the way it treated mental illness, and various other themes within the game. We kick off this week's podcast exploring just how that game impacted on us, and how incredibly different it is to almost anything else we've played before.
Then we talk about game engines, briefly, and the nonsense reputation that Unity has at the moment. Too many people see the Unity logo and immediately assume that the game is poor quality, but that couldn't be further from the truth.
Finally we chat about rhythm games; what we like in a good rhythm game, and why we like it. And wow do we like a bunch of different rhythm games.

JRPGs, JRPGs, and yet more JRPGs (Digitally Uploaded 2017, Episode #28)

It's all about JRPGs this week! What got us into JRPGs, what we love about the genre, and all that good stuff. From the classics, right through to the modern examples of the genre. We also discuss what might be driving the renaissance for JRPGs today - because between the likes of Final Fantasy XV, Persona 5, Yakuza 0 and NieR: Automata, there has been an absolute surge for the genre in recent years. So why are we talking all about JRPGs this week? Because we all love the genre, of course!
What are your favourite JRPGs, and what got you into the genre? Let us know - we're always keen to hear from fellow fans of the genre!

August is one very busy month for games. The entire month sees an unending stream of really exciting titles to look forward to, so this week on the Digitally Uploaded podcast, we chat about the title's we're most looking forward to.
We also take a look at Dragon Quest, following the wonderful news that Dragon Quest XI will be localised into English. It's a brilliant franchise, and we love it at DDNet, so you can expect a lot of gushing there.
Finally, with Warriors All Stars being one of the big releases this month, we also get to chatting about what character crossover games we'd like the most. And, yes, Hatsune Miku would be perfect in all of them.

This week on Digitally Uploaded kicks off with a discussion about violence in games, or, more specifically, non-violent games. Since last week we have been utterly in love with a little Aussie game called Yonder, and it's very much like how Zelda: Breath of the Wild would be if Zelda had no violence in it... yes, that's right, Zelda is a violent game, not that we ever think of it that way.
From there we have a chat about the number of boxes that we have under the TV, which is frankly getting ridiculous. What was once a couple of consoles is now an endless series of these things... are they really necessary?
Finally, we talk about what we eat and drink while we play video games. Not Moutain Dew and Doritos. We won't be consuming them until the latest cheque clears...

After a certain games journalist came out last week to attack anyone who likes a certain kind of Japanese game by calling them a "pervert" we decided to embrace our inner perviness this week and talk about sex in games.
Yes, that's right, it's okay to enjoy sexy games, and that doesn't make you a pervert any more than liking FPSers makes you a gun killer. After also talking about the difference between games with sexualised content that aren't sexy at all (because they're just too nonsense) and games that are genuinely erotic, we then also change tone completely to talk about Shephy, and the difficulty in reviewing games that are so different they're quite broken in some ways, but so utterly interesting in others.

We have a special episode of the Digitally Uploaded podcast this week; we're talking all about all things music!
Music is often the unappreciated part of a game, but without amazing soundtracks, our favourite video games would just not have the same emotional resonance and power. In celebration of that, this week we talk about what we like in our video game soundtracks, whether we'd go to a symphony for game music (and what we think about the ones that we have been to), and we play the old "if you were stranded on an island with just three game soundtracks to listen to, what would you have with you" game.
We've also picked personal favourite songs to play through the show! If you like any of them yourself, here's the playlist:
Cinco De Chocobo - Final Fantasy VII
Theme from Yoshi's Story
Theme from Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Sera Was Never: Dragon Age Inquisition
You can catch us on our social media too, of course:

After a week's hiatus (down here in Australia it's winter and that means sickness season), we're back! This week on the podcast we look at a wide range of different topics.
First up, are games ever really "boring?" It's a word that often gets thrown around, but you have to wonder if it's really boredom or a lack of understanding that's driving the criticism - we talk about that in the context of Valkyria Revolution a lot this week.
We also look at the game releases in July (finally! A relatively quite month for releases), and then chat about RPG Maker; a series of accessible game development tools that we've all been using for many years, and there's a new one just released on Nintendo 3DS.
Thanks as always for listening, and catch us on our social media if you'd like!
